How GV handles Order Cancellations or Refunds Related to Gift Cards & Credits

When an order involving a Gift Card purchase or credit usage is canceled or refunded, please take note of the following:


Situation 1: Handling Order Cancellations or Refunds for Gift Card Purchases

Currently, when an order containing a Gift Card is canceled or refunded, our GV app does not automatically disable the associated Gift Card code. As a store owner, you need to:

  1. Access our GV app.
  2. Locate the corresponding Gift Card code.
  3. Manually disable the Gift Card code to prevent unauthorized use.


We understand this issue and are actively working on an improvement. In a future update, the Gift Card code will be automatically disabled when the order is canceled or refunded, reducing manual work for you.


Situation 2: Handling Order Cancellations or Refunds for Orders Paid with Credit


If a customer uses credit to make a purchase and the order is later canceled or refunded, Shopify will automatically process the credit refund. You do not need to take any action, as Shopify ensures that the used credit is returned to the customer's account according to their refund policy.
